MAN B&W L V32/40 Propulsion NR Turbocharging Variant Engine

The MAN B&W L V32/40 is a medium-speed, four-stroke marine propulsion engine available in both inline (L) and V-type (V) configurations, optimized for heavy-duty propulsion in commercial vessels. The NR (Non-Reducing) turbocharging variant is designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency, optimized airflow, and better transient response at partial loads, making it especially suitable for vessels operating under dynamic conditions. Each cylinder produces approximately 480–500 kW, giving a total power output range from 2,880 kW (6L) to 12,000 kW (20V). The engine offers high torque output, typically ranging between 30,000 Nm and 120,000 Nm, depending on the configuration and operating point. This engine is designed to operate on marine diesel oil (MDO) and heavy fuel oil (HFO), and is fully compliant with IMO Tier II emission regulations. For operations in Emission Control Areas (ECAs), it can be equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to meet IMO Tier III standards. The MAN 32/40 with NR turbocharging is widely used in cargo vessels, ferries, RoRo ships, offshore supply vessels (OSVs), and small cruise ships, offering durability, high load acceptance, and excellent performance in both constant-speed and variable-speed propulsion applications.
