The MAN B&W L27/38 is a robust, medium-speed, four-stroke marine propulsion engine designed for reliable operation in a wide range of commercial vessels. Built in an inline (L) configuration only, this engine is optimized for durability, efficiency, and simple maintenance. It produces approximately 450 kW per cylinder, with total power output ranging from 1,800 kW (4L) to 4,500 kW (10L). The L27/38 delivers torque levels between 25,000 Nm and 62,000 Nm, depending on the configuration and RPM, providing excellent propulsion performance for vessels operating under variable load conditions. The engine operates on marine diesel oil (MDO) or heavy fuel oil (HFO) and complies with IMO Tier II emission regulations. For vessels operating in Emission Control Areas (ECAs), the L27/38 can be equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to meet IMO Tier III standards. Known for its mechanical simplicity and robust design, it is ideal for vessels requiring high reliability, such as cargo ships, RoPax ferries, offshore supply vessels (OSVs), dredgers, and naval auxiliary vessels.
