The MAN B&W ME-GI (Gas Injection) engine is a low-speed, two-stroke, dual-fuel marine engine developed by MAN Energy Solutions. It builds upon the proven ME-C platform and incorporates a high-pressure gas injection system that allows the engine to operate on both natural gas (LNG) and fuel oil (HFO/MDO) without compromising efficiency or performance. The ME-GI engine delivers outstanding thermal efficiency, low CO₂ emissions, and virtually eliminates methane slip—making it a preferred solution for shipowners seeking IMO Tier III compliance and lower GHG footprints. Power output ranges from 5,000 kW to over 80,000 kW, depending on bore size and cylinder configuration. Maximum torque exceeds 10,000 kNm in larger models. The ME-GI engine meets IMO Tier II by default and achieves Tier III compliance through the integration of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems. These engines are commonly used in LNG carriers, container vessels, VLCCs, and ultra-large bulk carriers, offering fuel flexibility, operational reliability, and compliance with current and future emissions regulations.
