The MTU Series 1163 is designed to be both lighter and more powerful than any comparable engine, making it an excellent choice for marine and commercial vessels. It features a two-stage MTU sequential turbocharging system, which is speed and load-sensitive and includes several modular turbocharger groups with low-pressure (L.P.) and high-pressure (H.P.) turbochargers, along with L.P. and H.P. intercoolers. The engine also benefits from an air-in cylinder starting system and resilient engine mounting to enhance durability and performance.
