The Wartsila 31 is a high-efficiency, medium-speed, four-stroke engine introduced in 2015, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most efficient 4-stroke diesel engine in its class. Designed for main propulsion and auxiliary applications, it is available in diesel (31), dual-fuel (31DF), and pure gas (31SG) variants. The diesel version delivers between 4,200 and 12,100 kW at 720/750 rpm, making it ideal for cruise ships, ferries, offshore vessels, and patrol vessels. It supports operation on HFO, MDO, MGO, and gas (for DF), and meets IMO Tier III emissions with SCR or by operating in gas mode.
