The Wartsila 38 is a four-stroke, medium-speed marine diesel engine designed for main propulsion and auxiliary power in a broad range of vessels. Introduced in the early 2010s, the engine features a compact design with high power density and excellent fuel efficiency. It is available in 6-, 7-, 8-, and 9-cylinder in-line configurations, delivering power outputs from 1,800 kW up to 5,400 kW at 750 rpm. The Wärtsilä 38 runs primarily on marine diesel oil (MDO) or marine gas oil (MGO), with the option to incorporate SCR technology to meet IMO Tier III emission standards. It is widely used in cruise ships, Ro Pax ferries, offshore supply vessels, and large fishing vessels.
